YouTube Movie RentalAs most people know, YouTube is a video sharing site. You can watch others videos and even upload your own, but it has only ever been for videos, never for television programs or films.
|| ||However, on the 22nd of January, YouTube launched itself into the online film rental market, by putting five rental films on its site for its America visitors.|
Currently all but one of the films cost £2.50 to rent, but in the future this price may change. Once the movie is paid for, users are given 48 hours to watch the film. With such competitive prices, is YouTube soon going to be the major alternative to renting films from top movie rental shops, like the worldwide shop Blockbuster?
As YouTube is owned by Google, this is another way in which Google is expanding into even more areas of our lives. First search, now movies, images, news, apps, docs, translator, finance, maps, movie rental and loads more. What next?
It is said that YouTube is planning to expand its rental catalogue, and even branch out into television programs. Soon YouTube rental will expand to the UK, as last year YouTube signed long-form content deals with Channel 4 and Channel Five.
I think this is a good move by YouTube, as it provides consumers with more choice, however it could be fatal for shops like Blockbuster, who already deal in this market.
Good or bad, I will let you decide, but I personally believe that this is another way in which Google is expanding more into of our everyday lives.
