How Can I Increase My PageRank?

Before you read this article, I suggest that unless you have already done so, or you feel you know what PageRank is, you read my what is PageRank article.

Ok, so how can I increase my PageRank? Well its easier said than done, as often it will take a long time for you to see if your changes have helped your PageRank of not, so it is really important that you get it right first time.

Below is a table with things you can do to improve your PageRank, how/why they work, and how effective they are.

Way to increase PageRank
How and why it works
Get inbound links from other sites, especially high ranking onesIf you imagine that Google sees the links as votes towards your site, the more votes, the better your PageRank. Also if the sites are high ranking themselves, it would count as more votes
8/10 (High)
Update your content regularlyGoogle likes pages that are regularly updated, this is because it likes to improve the web for users, so by providing new content you are more likely to get a better PageRank
6/10 (Medium)
Keep links to external sites lowBy only linking to a few external sites, you keep more PageRank for yourself, as you are giving less of your votes away again
5/10 (Medium)
Validate your siteBy validating your page, its stylesheet and your rss feed with the W3C validator, you will grantee that Google will be able to read your site properly - for more on validation, please see my Website Validity article
4/10 (Medium)
Speed up your site (you can use Google Page Speed to help you)Google likes websites that load fast, so by improving the load time of your site, Google will like your site a bit more
3/10 (Low)

I hope I have given you some ways in which you can use to increase your PageRank. Good Luck!
