Google Webmaster ToolsIf you own a blog, you want it to get recognised, so that what you write, gets read. For this to happen, its a really good idea to submit your site to major search engines.

One really great way that you can tell Google (the biggest and most popular search engine) about your site it to create a Google account, and then sign up for Webmasters Tools. This will allow you to tell Google many things about your site, and it will also let you see many things that Google knows about your site that may otherwise be invisible to you.
This is really great, as it means that you can monitor everything you do to your site, and see if it has a positive affect on your site in the SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages) or a negative one. That way you can adapt what you do to make sure that you only do positive things which are good for your site. |
Some of the many things you can do with Webmasters Tools include- Submit a sitemap to Google - this helps to show Google where your pages are, so that it can crawl them quicker
- Remove URL's that you don't want Google to index, meaning that you have much more control over what Google indexes from your site
- Create a Sidewiki for your site
- See where you have appeared in Google for certain key words, over the last few months
- Seeing how many links Google has found to your site, in much more detail than you can without a Google Webmasters Tools account.
| | | You can also do loads loads more, from telling Google of a change of your sites address, modifying the crawl rate, setting your geographic target, seeing Google's perception of the speed of your site etc.
Basically my message to website and blog owners is get signed up for Google Webmasters Tools, to have a much better chance of your content getting read, or products getting bought, or ads getting clicked.
