Microsoft Vs Apple
Sometimes you may wonder why Apple still bothers to bring out new operating systems, when Microsoft is in control of the majority of the worlds computers, well in this article I hope to answer this question.
|I believe the answer to this is because Apple are not like Microsoft, who have only really got products in the computing market, Apple however have branched out into other things such as the iPod music player.
Because of things like the iPod, Apple is becoming more popular with consumers.
The iPod and the iPhone have given Apple a good reputation, and because of that the company is making a very descent profit - in the last three months of 2009 alone Apple sold 6.9 million iPhones.
Apple is now using its good reputation, and healthy profits (on their other products) to try and persuade more people to switch from PC to Mac.
Mid 2008, Apple owned around 5.2% of the world computing market, it then went down to 3.5% at the end of 2008 - probably due to the huge increase in sales of Windows Vista. However as it now stands, Vista is not gaining much more of the market, and Mac is starting to climb again - it currently stands at 4.4%. Mac is doing ok at the moment, and that would all be ok, if it wasn't for the newcomer: Google. Once Google enters the OS market, will Mac keep its popularity?
This is also a scary thought for Microsoft, as they are already fighting Google in the search market, and now it too is bringing out an operating system.
Thanks for reading, if you liked this article, you will probably also like my Microsoft VS Google article which I launched last month.
